The Kashish Buildings were originally designed by renowned local designers E G Paley of Paley and Austin Architects who designed and built the building in 1870 for Richard Fawcett who was a well-known business man and marble merchant- Mr Fawcett was also the Mayor of Lancaster in 1865- Richard Fawcett sadly passed away on the 27th December 1878 aged 68 years- In 1881 the premises were occupied by Anthony Bell and Sons- marble masons and sculptors- whose unique marble chimney pots still adorn many a property in Lancashire- The building has always been architecturally significant because of its Venetian style which is unique in this area of Lancaster and it was to this backdrop that in the early 90-s the property was bought back to life by the current management-s family members who began trading as -The Nawab Balti House-- During the late 90s- a new chef took over the restaurant and traded for a short period- a decision was then taken to stop trading and the building was closed- this was a sad time- not only for the old management- but also for the people of Lancaster who had now become close friends and regular customers- Over the years the management periodically returned to Lancaster and everyone they spoke to would reminisce about the high quality of food served in this iconic building during those amazing early years- it was for this reason that a very easy decision was made- and that decision was to return to Lancaster- begin trading once again and most importantly to rebuild those lost friendships- The management of the Kashish are proud of both the history of the building and the reasons surrounding their return to Lancaster- The Kashish is now a fully refurbished high qualiity Indian Restaurant which combines food from India- the Punjab and kashmir all fully opened and ready to serve our friends of Lancashire once again and the management look forward to providing service to all our regulars over the coming years----------
