I have two complementary roles- - Specialist pelvic physiotherapist- - Accredited medical acupuncturist As a specialist physiotherapist I work mainly with women to assist with pelvic dysfunction including pain- pelvic floor issues and sexual pain difficulties- I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2001- specialised in women-s and pelvic health in 2005 and opened my private practice in 2009- I have extensive postgraduate training including an MSc in Rehabilitation Studies -pelvic health-- a diploma in Psychosexual Medicine- Mummy MOT training and fitness professional training- I continue to work both in the NHS and private practice alongside lecturing- As a medical acupuncturist I treat a wide range of conditions in both men and women- I trained to use acupuncture within my physiotherapy practice in 2003 and have since undergone considerable further training including the certificate of medical acupuncture and now the Diploma of medical acupuncture - attaining accredited medical acupuncturist status and full membership of the British Medical Acupuncture Society- Physiotherapy uses postural advice- manual techniques and exercises to restore function- It is effective for musculoskeletal problems- including neck- back and pelvic pain and for treating pelvic floor problems- such as bladder weakness and prolapse- Massage can be beneficial both for relaxation and to treat specific problems such as stiffness- muscle injury- stress and fatigue- It is safe throughout pregnancy- helping the body adapt to the stresses placed upon it- Acupuncture influences the nervous and hormonal systems to help alleviate and control symptoms- There is considerable western medical research looking at the mechanisms of acupuncture and conditions for which it can be beneficial- I am a chartered physiotherapist and member of the CSP and am registered with the HCPC- Additionally I am a full member of both the British Medical Acupuncture Society -BMAS- and the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy organisation -POGP-- My clinic room is located in Meersbrook Hall- inside the lovely Meersbrook park- Additionally I also work in the NHS as a Lead Senior clinician in pelvic and women-s health and work as a lecturer-
