Dr Niklas Serning is a UKCP accredited existential and child psychotherapist and HPC-BPS chartered counselling psychologist working in central Bristol close to Clifton- Cotham and Redland- He is also a lecturer in Existential Psychotherapy Practice at NSPC - Middlesex University in London- He works in an existential phenomenological way- yet his first degrees were in CBT and psychodynamic work and he has also done training in core process psychotherapy- He works in accordance with UKCP- BACP and BPS guidelines- and is experienced in engaging with depression- trauma- anxiety- relationship difficulties- identity and meaning- Psychotherapy- for Niklas Serning- is the creation of a safe and open space- a real and authentic relationship where fears can be questioned and unspoken thoughts be voiced- There are many ways to practice psychotherapy- Niklas- way of doing it would be best described as phenomenological- This means that his focus is on how the client experiences and makes sense of his or her life- holding firmly that greater awareness creates opportunities for both acceptance and change- Niklas Serning has been specifically trained in PTSD- trauma work by Babette Rothschild and group work by Emmy van Deurzen- Niklas Serning-s BSc and MSc in psychology are from Sweden- They were broad in focus and gave him a solid grounding in the subject- After several years of working with the United Nations- he chose to return to psychology- doing his foundation and first year of training in the contemplative and mindfulness based core process psychotherapy training of Karuna Institute in Devon- His continued training has been with the phenomenological and existential NSPC in London- where he has presented his doctoral dissertation- leading to the award of Doctor of existential counselling psychology and psychotherapy- and also accreditation as a counselling psychologist-
